This
issue marks the beginning of our fourth year of publication of the Elder

in the U.S. in 2002 and have grown to include 4,000 professionals in the
fields of aging and human resource management world-wide.

Invitation
to Co-Sponsor
2006 Train-the-Trainer Conferences
You or your organization can gain valuable visibility with professionals
in the human resources and aging services fields by signing on as
a co-sponsor for one of our popular train-the-trainer conferences
in 2006.
We will train groups of 25 people each to deliver the powerful,
interactive seminar, Elder Care and Work: Finding the Balance
in several cities this summer. As a sponsor, you will assist in
selecting and arranging the local conference site and promoting
registration for the event. In return, you will receive one free
registration for the conference as well as recognition in all promotional
materials and on the day of the event.
Past co-sponsors have included academic institutions, elder law
attorneys, geriatric care management providers, and consulting firms.

We strive
to keep our content timely and to-the-point. In order to continue to deliver
useful information for you, please tell us what you liked or disliked about
the issues in 2005. Help shape the focus for the upcoming 10 issues in 2006.
Looking Back
In past issues, we've covered topics ranging from intergenerational day
care offered via a partnership between IBM and local agencies in New York
State to an interview with Donna Wagner, researcher/pioneer in elder care/work
balance, to a multi-part series highlighting key findings of a global
survey of work-life policies conducted at Harvard University. We also
spotlighted local public/private partnerships in Missouri and New Jersey.
And we've examined public policy issues like the status of the national
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) - all as they relate to elder care/work
balance.
Looking Forward
Some ideas we are considering for 2006:
- Profiles
of successful programs at small employers and in rural areas
- Proposed
state legislation to mandate paid sick leave
- The
special circumstances and needs of employees dealing with both child
care and elder care
- The
"two income trap:" why so many families are finding it tough to finance
elder care despite higher-than-ever household incomes
- Award
winning employers: how does elder care fit into their mix for work/life
balance?
- Emerging
global roundtable on work-life balance
